Artist Biography
Amiee Risby
Amiee Risby graduated from Kwantlen Polytechnic University with a Bachelor of fine arts and visual art in 2020. Risby has always taken an interest in bright whimsical colours and integrated them into both her painting, sculptures and ceramic works.
Risby’s interest in human biology, connection, and storytelling is expansive and can be seen through whimsical characters who bond through food and experiences.
These stories express a deep desire to find lasting friendships and the ever struggle to make those connections in our changing world. While these paintings activate the surface the form is meant to find its way into the homes of the viewer and be used in daily life. Creating connections through the use of functional artworks.
Qualifications
Amiee Risby has been teaching pottery professionally for over 5 years once her fine arts degree was completed in 2020. Risby's skill set is vast; ranging from wheel throwing, hand building (functional pottery such as dishware and home decor to hand built sculptures) to painting including water colour, acrylic and oil. Risby brings these composition, colour and techniques to the class room!
Risby has showcased her work in galleries including, the Surrey Art Gallery, The Turnbull Gallery, Port Moody Arts Center and more.
As an active artist, ceramic instructor and mother, Risby's passion is finding connection with everyone and helping people explore their artistic side.
